Salary and Benefits:

Two-year renewable contract.  Competitive salaries based on qualifications and experience. Free furnished air conditioned apartment including free satellite TV, essential utilities and maintenance.  Annual point-of-origin repatriation air tickets. Extremely generous paid holidays.  End of service gratuity.  Free State dental and medical facilities.  Gym and recreational facilities.  HBCC  has cable internet facilities and all faculty are provided with a PC and unlimited internet access from their offices.

The job:

You will usually teach classes of around 20 young men of mixed background and ability.  The majority are members of the surrounding community.  As well as English plus Maths, Computing etc., students learn punctuality, personal responsibility, preparedness etc.  Students are generally pleasant and respectful.

Class sizes and student expectation mean that lessons tend to follow a ‘presentation-discussion-written record’ pattern.  The capacity to explain clearly, and check thoroughly is most valuable in this situation.  Thus, you must be proficient in English grammar analysis, and have the capacity to explain grammar patterns.

The place:

Hafr Al-Batin is a large town in the North of Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province.  There are cafes, restaurants, supermarkets.  There are no Western-style compounds.

The local population is almost universally friendly.

HBCC maintains an apartment at KFUPM (King Fahad University of Petroleum and Minerals, the parent organisation).  This large campus is 500km away, near the city of Al-Khobar, where you will find huge shopping malls.  Road links are good, and Hafr Al-Batin is served by a local airport.

Accommodation at HBCC is in an apartment building, entirely occupied by Faculty.  Apartments are comfortable.  Satellite TV is provided free.  We have gym facilities, pool table etc. Also, a sports hall is nearing completion at the college. You pay no bills.  If you wish it, life at HBCC can be very inexpensive.

Although ‘family status’ is available, it isn’t recommended as there is no Anglophonic education available in Hafr Al-Batin, and there is little for pre-school children to do.

Benefits:

Pay scales are reviewed every few years.  Your personal salary is reviewed upon contract renewal, which is every 2 years.  Overtime is paid for any extra teaching.  As a government employee, your salary payments are guaranteed, and you are fully protected by Saudi labour laws.

The vacation allocation is excellent.  The academic year is divided into 2 semesters.  There is a long summer break of up to 3 months.  There is an inter-semester break of up to a month.  Other breaks of up to 2 weeks depend on the religious calendar.  You are expected to work approximately 35 weeks of the year.

To Apply:          Send cover letter, recent photo, and detailed resume/C.V. including details of at least two referees (including current/last employer) to:
