The place:

Hafr Al-Batin is a large town in the North of Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province.  There are cafes, restaurants, supermarkets.  However, there are no compounds where Western cultural activity is openly tolerated but in the main the local population is friendly.

HBCC maintains links with KFUPM (King Fahad University of Petroleum and Minerals, the parent university).  This large campus is 500km away, near the city of Al-Khobar, where you will find most western-style facilities.  Road links are good. Hafr Al-Batin is also served by a local airport.

Private accommodation is in a dedicated residential building.  Apartments are comfortable.  Free satellite TV is provided

along with other basic utilities.  Broad-band internet is available at a nominal monthly cost. There are gym and games facilities. Cost of living can be very low.

Family status living is not recommended as availability of good educational facilities for young children is difficult to find.

Also there is little for pre-school children to do.

Benefits:

Your personal salary is reviewed upon contract renewal, which is every 2 years and depends upon your job evaluation

rating.  Overtime can be paid for any extra teaching hours above a maximum specified.  As a government employee, your salary payments are guaranteed, and you are fully protected by Saudi labour laws. However, some official documents are required and you are expected to pay the costs upon renewal.

The academic year is divided into 2 semesters.  There is a long summer break of approximately 10 weeks.  There is a

short inter-semester break.  Other breaks of up to 2 weeks depend on the religious calendar.  You are expected to work approximately 35 weeks of the year.
